New and Noteworthy Alberta Cannabis: July 7th 2021

A few new arrivals this week! But before we get into that, I just wanted to touch on the fact that cannabis culture can be more than just toking for fun. For some, cannabis provides a few options for relief. In fact, we recently looked at how cannabis has been (scientifically) proven to help people out when exercising! You can take a look at that over on our Instagram.

A Few Fave Products

Cannabis Flower: Kali Mist by Delta 9

Value Bud with great cannabinoid profile

Kali Mist is a long-time fan favourite pot product. It’s for days when you just need to get sh*t done. Like folding the laundry or washing your hair. It’s a mid-THC cultivar, with a price tag that’s sure to put a smile on your face.

Focusing pinene, earthy-and-spicy cymene and calming bisabolol mingle, creating a fresh, spicy flavour with light floral undertones. The aroma is most evident when you grind it up your weed.

Mimi Mentions: Surprised to see terpenes like cymene and bisabolol? So was I! Admittedly, these terpenes aren’t quite as prevalent as myrcene, caryophyllene or limonene.

One of the reasons we keep bringing Delta 9 pot products in is because they’re value buds with a great cannabinoid profile.

Did you know? A good way to keep your THC tolerance within reasonable ranges is to start your day with a lower-THC product, then moving on to more potent dosages later in the day! As always, start low and go slow.

This strain is a riot of colour* sprinkled with trichome coverage, with dense medium-sized buds that are a delight for the eyes as well as the nose. Before grind, the pungent scent contains soft floral undertones and notes of spice that grow and intensify after being ground up.

Big Dip (Limited Edition) By Cruuzy

“Cruuzy is the feeling of transcendence when you hit that one part of the song that makes the hair on your arm stand up.”

Cruuzy Instagram
Inspired by Canadian Pot Summers and Trips to the Stars

Big Dip by Cruuzy is a GSC Platinum – well, at least that’s the pot that Alberta got. If you know your lineages, you’ll know that GSC stands for the name of a treat sold by young ladies in their formative years. Platinum is a cultivar name that is associated with high THC content. Big Dip is best paired with naps in a hammock, with visits to the beach or with an evening campfire.

Cruuzy Big Dip was inspired by the transfixing sight of the Big Dipper in the summer night sky. This limited release, highly potent indica-dominant strain boasts super-fresh aromas as bright as the stars in the sky. Big Dip will sink beneath the horizon as summer comes to a close, so cop it before it fades away.

Fun fact! The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis commission (AGLC) list out Caryophyllene, Cedrene and Myrcene for the terps in Cruuzy’s Big Dip. We list out Caryophyllene, Myrcene and Limonene. So who’s wrong?

Neither!

While caryophyllene, myrcene and limonene are the top three terpenes, cedrene and linalool round out the top 5.

Mimi mentions: The cultivar you’ll find in your Big Dip depends on which province you’re in. As previously mentioned, Alberta snagged Platinum GSC, while other provinces got Slurricane.

This calls for a cross-Canada roadtrip to find the best Big Dip for you!

Cannabis Flower: Black Widow by Emerald Health

Black Widow: Now showing in theatres near you, and on Daikoku's cannabis menu

If you’re going to be checking out the MCU’s latest blockbuster, then you pretty much have to pick one of these up. I mean, it’s thematic.

To be honest, it’s rather hard to keep Black Widow (the cannabis, not the movie starring Scarlett Johansson) by Emerald Health in stock when we get it in. It’s another daytime product with a mid-to-high THC potential. Leading out with myrcene, limonene and caryophyllene, it’s a light “spring-in-your-step” kind of experience, rather than a “I’m slowly melting” sensation.

Black Widow is a deviation of its older sister, White Widow. The sisters are celebrated for their beautifully balanced, slightly Sativa-dominant, hybrid characteristics inherited from their Southern Indian Indica and Pure Brazilian Sativa parents. The dense buds are sticky with resinous trichomes and interwoven with bright orange hairs. Her alluring sweet and fruity aroma is juxtaposed by a spicy bite.

Also New This Week

Here are a few extra new arrivals that we’re pretty stoked about!

Soft Chews: Pomegranate CBD Soft Chew by Dynathrive

First and foremost, I’d like to talk about Dynathrive gummies soft chews. I was actually interviewed last year about this company. In part because Dynaleo, the producer, is based in Edmonton, and because gummies soft chews continue to be one of the most popular edible formats. (In turn, I interviewed Alison Gordon who heads OPP, the team responsible for representing Dynaleo and their brands, Sun Shower and Dynathrive.)

The reason I’m so excited about the Pomegranate CBD soft chew is because you get 30 (that’s right, THIRTY) soft chews. It’s the beginning of bulk formats in edibles, and I couldn’t be happier.

That being said, there’s more to it than cost savings and lessening environmental impacts.

Fact is, the benefits of CBD tend to be more easily observed over time. So to give CBD and its effectiveness a fair trial, Cannabidiol products should be consumed over a period of 2 weeks, with notes taken before, during and after. Small edible packages tend to be insufficient to give a full 2 week’s worth, while oils aren’t quite as tasty.

It also helps that Dynatrhive is working to create healthful options! The flavour we brought in is Pomegranate, a well known anti-oxidant and all-round annoying fruit to peel because of the mess it makes. Dynathrive also launched a Sour Apple flavoured soft chew, made with Apple Cider vinegar.

These softchews are made with beef gelatin, and are lactose and gluten free.

Cannabis Flower: Platinum Cookies GSC by Palmetto

This one makes me laugh. The Big Dip by Cruuzy is a GSC Platinum, as discussed above, and has been classified as an Indica by the licensed producer. On the other hand, Palmetto’s cross resulted in the Platinum to be dominant. As a result, their “Platinum Cookies GSC” is labelled as a Sativa. It’s always interesting to juxtapose two takes on a cultivar. Let us know if you try them both! Which is your favourite Platinum Cookie?
